Q: What is a student-run business?
A: One of the many things that makes Washington University such a great university is the unique opportunity for students to own and operate their own businesses on campus. As part of the Student Entrepreneurial Program (StEP), students can apply concepts learned in the classroom to develop a business plan, and then plan, launch, and run that business. Washington University has seven storefronts, conveniently located in the heart of the campus’ student housing, the South 40. Student owners are responsible for financing, outfitting their respective spaces and all aspects of their venture, including staffing, ordering supplies, accounting, filing licenses, purchasing insurance, buying equipment, cleanly maintaining the space, advertising, paying rent, and taking care of all other functions of any business.
